Romulan
This 75% Indica and 25% Sativa strain is the offspring of the renowned White Rhino and an unknown North American Indica. Romulan is so lauded for its mind-bending, physically relaxing effects that it’s been featured in High Times, Cannabis Culture, and Skunk magazines. Despite being named after a fictional alien race, Romulan’s aroma and flavor are very much of this world. Its rich taste is uniquely earthy, featuring dominant wood and spice notes and refreshing accents of sweet, tart lemon and pine, making for a wonderfully unique flavor medley. Named for the alien race in the iconic Star Trek franchise, Romulan won’t beam you up into the galaxies but rather transport you into the depths of your couch. As such, it’s a solid choice for those looking to unwind after a long day. Users describe its effects as akin to receiving a deep tissue massage while providing a renewed sense of lightness and happiness. This strain should be taken lightly, as it does have the ability to knock you out after a few short hours. Taking it at night is your best bet, even if you are a weathered cannabis connoisseur.

Romulan: Heady Buzz
Romulan seeds grow into tall plants with long buds and long leaves circling the bud sites. The plants are equally green and purple, and when the light hits them just right, they shimmer with dusty resinous trichomes. Looking closely at the buds, you can see bright and vibrant orange pistils as well as the sugary-looking crystal trichomes. The leaves right at the bud site are dark purple to the point of being nearly black. The finished and harvested nuggets are dense and dank and deep green with that same white resin covering the exterior. Winner of third place for Best Non-Solvent Hash in the 2017 High Times Medical Cannabis Cup, the strain has a resume worth bragging about. With the write-ups in the magazines we mentioned before, this strain has a lot of traction in the cannabis community of growers and users. Don’t be surprised if you see Romulan taking home more awards in the future.
Growing Tips for Our Seeds
Romulan cannabis is considered a relatively straightforward strain that even first-timers and novices can successfully grow, due in part to its being highly resistant to common diseases. This Indica-dominant hybrid can be grown indoors or outdoors. If you’re growing Romulan cannabis seeds inside, you will need a little more space than usual as it grows a bit taller than typical Indicas and needs room to branch out. Cultivators should know that this strain thrives best when grown outside in a warm and dry climate. However, growers can recreate this environment indoors by using high-quality grow lights and exhaust fans.
Dial in Your Growing Conditions
- Indoor or Outdoor: Romulan cannabis plants can be grown indoors and outdoors by all levels of growers. The ideal temperature for these plants is around 68-80 degrees Fahrenheit. During the vegetative phase, maintain a light cycle of 18-20 hours of light per day to promote healthy growth. During the flowering stage, it’s important to adjust the light cycle to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.
- Moisture control: When it comes to humidity, keeping it at moderate levels is important. During the vegetative stage, aim for a humidity level of around 40-50%. At the beginning of the flowering stage, gradually reduce the humidity to about 30-40%.
- Training Techniques: Topping, Low-stress training (LST), and scrogging methods can really help with the success of this particular strain. These methods, ultimately, increase yields and protect the plants from overgrowth and a loss in THC content.
The Germination Game Plan
Before you even plant your Romulan female cannabis plants, you will first need to germinate these seeds. To do so, refer to our free germination guide, knowing that they are backed by our impressive 90% germination guarantee.
Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest
- Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect to harvest after a flowering period of 55-65 days. If grown outdoors, the grower can expect to harvest in the middle of October.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 250 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 250 grams per plant. Even with these smaller yield numbers, you will be extremely happy with the results of this grow. Get ready to harvest some large and potent buds.
Dominant Terpenes in Romulan: Spaced Out
The Romulan terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is linalool, while caryophyllene and pinene are secondary terpenes.
- Linalool: Most Dominant – Found in lavender and cloves this terpene helps with aroma and flavors in cannabis plants.
- Caryophyllene: Secondary Terpene – Known for being spicy and peppery you can find caryophyllene in cinnamon as well as cannabis.
- Pinene: Pine Needles – Found in pine needles and conifer trees, this terpene adds to the flavor and aroma of cannabis plants.
Dominant Cannabinoids in Romulan:
Cannabinoids play an important role in Romulan seeds and are generally a huge part of most strains of cannabis. That happy, relaxed, and sleepy feeling you get when enjoying the Romulan strain is due to its dominant cannabinoids. Each cannabinoid does something different to the user.
- THC: The Main Character – THC is the most dominant cannabinoid on the molecular level of this strain. The crystalline compound tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient of cannabis. Topping out at 20%, the THC in this Indica-dominant strain is responsible for the relaxed and happy feeling you get when enjoying Romulan cannabis.
- CBD: Very Minimal Amounts – While the CBD levels in Romulan are around 1%, the cannabinoid is still present, and the effects are noticeable in this strain. CBD plays a smaller role in what the strain does to the user. CBD is non-psychoactive and can produce effects that help with anxiety, sleep, pain, and even stress. The CBD in the Romulan strain, even in its lower amounts, definitely has a positive effect on the user.
