Michael Phelps
The Michael Phelps weed strain was born and bred in Long Beach, California, by combining potent parent strains OG Kush and another unknown variant. The strain is named after the Olympian and 23-time medalist. The 50/50 balanced hybrid features a monster THC content and heavy-hitting effects that deserve multiple gold medals. The strain boasts its Indica side far more than its Sativa genetics. The lazy buzz is perfect for an evening smoke sesh because of its ability to sedate the user for hours at a time. You won’t feel a burst of energy after a few hits of this quality bud. Michael Phelps’s cannabis is not for wake-and-bake enthusiasts. It will provide a giggly and happy head high combined with couch-lock; the only thing you will find energy to do is eat up all of your snacks with a massive case of the munchies. The flavor profile of this strain is sweet and kushy with hints of lemon and pine. The aroma is similar to that of the flavor, with an added woody and chemical-like scents that are noticeable before you even lay eyes on the buds. True cannabis connoisseurs love the flavor and aroma of this strain, and as far as the effects go, although the strain is said to have both Indica and Sativa genetics, you’re only going to feel the effects of the Indica side.

Michael Phelps: Make a Splash
Michael Phelps seeds grow into medium to tall plants with long green leaves and bushy buds. The appearance of the plant seems to be paler than it really is. At first glance, the naked eye can’t pick up on the millions of small crystals covering the exterior of the plant. A closer inspection shows that the stems, branches, leaves, and buds are all coated with thick, resiny trichomes. You can see, against the pale green background, orange and brown pistils forming from the bud sites. Those hairs will be easier to see once the buds have been harvested. Those harvested buds are still covered with what looks like sugar, but it’s the remainder of the milky trichomes from the growing buds. Underneath the resin, you can see bright green and amber nuggets. Although the strain has yet to win any major awards, it does come with an award-winning name. The Michael Phelps strain does not need any major wains to bolster its popularity. The name gives it all the street cred it could possibly want. We fully anticipate Michael Phelps weed taking home the gold at future Cannabis Cup events.
Growing Tips for Our Seeds
Michael Phelps feminized cannabis plants are easy for first-time growers to cultivate. This is due in part to the female plants it produces that have thick and hardy stalks, as well as branches that are naturally able to bear the weight of their dense and chunky nuggets, so you most likely won’t need to set up supports for the branches. Grown outside in an arid setting, this 50/50 hybrid can withstand strong winds and even cold temperatures pretty well. However, if you live in a place where the temperatures and humidity levels are unpredictable, growing your plants indoors or in a greenhouse is a better option. So long as you are growing your Michael Phelps cannabis plants, which are susceptible to mold and mildew, in a dry setting, you can grow them indoors, outside, or even in a greenhouse like we recommended before.
Dial in Your Growing Conditions
- Indoor or Outdoor: Michael Phelps marijuana can be grown indoors and outdoors by growers with limited experience. The desired temperature for this strain is between 65-80 degrees Fahrenheit. This strain requires 18-20 hours of light during the vegetative stage and needs a cycle change to 12/12 to induce the flowering stage and bring your plants to harvest.
- Moisture control: Humidity levels of approximately 60% during the vegetative phase, gradually decreasing to 40-50% or slightly lower during the flowering stage. Because this strain is susceptible to mold and pests, lowering the humidity will help keep mold and bud rot off of your plants.
- Training Techniques: Indoor growers, Michael Phelps female marijuana plants respond very well to the Screen of Green (ScrOG) and Sea of Green (SOG) training methods. These methods help create healthy growth from the top to the bottom buds. Both of these methods will also help to increase your yield come harvest time.
The Germination Game Plan
Before you even plant your Michael Phelps female cannabis plants, you will first need to germinate these seeds. To do so, refer to our free germination guide, knowing that they are backed by our impressive 90% germination guarantee.
Yields, Flowering Time, and Harvest
- Flowering Time: Growing indoors, you can expect the Michael Phelps strain to harvest after a flowering period of 60-70 days. Outdoors, it should be harvest-ready sometime near the end of October to early November.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 400 grams per square meter, outdoor grows typically produce up to 400 grams per plant. Being that this strain is relatively easy to grow, you should be really happy when weighing out these yields. The high THC content makes this grow full of potent buds.
Dominant Terpenes in Michael Phelps: As Good as Gold
The Michael Phelps terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells and tastes and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is limonene, while humulene and caryophyllene are secondary terpenes.
- Limonene: Most Dominant – Found in the rinds of citrus fruits, this terpene can help with anxiety and improve lung function when found in cannabis.
- Humulene: Secondary Terpene – Humulene is what gives hops their flavor and is why it is added to beer. When found in cannabis, humulene provides an earthy and woodsy scent and flavor.
- Caryophyllene: Spicy and Peppery – Found in spices like clove and cinnamon, this terpene gives cannabis its spicy and peppery aroma.
Dominant Cannabinoids in Michael Phelps:
Cannabinoids play an important role in Michael Phelps seeds and are generally a huge part of most strains of cannabis. That creative, relaxed, and uplifted feeling you get when enjoying the Michael Phelps strain is due to its dominant cannabinoids. Each cannabinoid does something different to the user.
- THC: The Main Character – THC is the most dominant cannabinoid on the molecular level of this strain. The crystalline compound tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient of cannabis. Topping out at 25%, the THC in this evenly balanced strain is responsible for the creative and relaxed feeling you get when enjoying Michael Phelps cannabis.
- CBD: Very Minimal Amounts – While the CBD levels in Michael Phelps are around 2%, the cannabinoid is still present, and the effects are noticeable in this strain. CBD plays a smaller role in what the strain does to the user. CBD is non-psychoactive and can produce effects that help with anxiety, sleep, pain, and even stress. The CBD in the Michael Phelps strain, even in its lower amounts, definitely has a positive effect on the user.

Knowing I wouldn’t have to deal with male plants was a relief. It was comforting to focus solely on the female plants and their growth.
