GMO Cookies
The GMO Cookies strain of cannabis is a cross between Girl Scout Cookies feminized seeds and Chemdawg feminized seeds. The strain’s roots can be traced back to the original Cookies strain which was created in 2010 in San Francisco. While the rest of its history is hazy, one thing is for sure, GMO Cookies is a fan favorite in the cannabis community. GMO Cookies is different from the majority of Indica-dominant strains since it is a day or night time weed. Unlike most indicas, it gives you some pep in your step, and it won’t leave you immobilized on the couch. GMO actually stands for garlic, mushroom and onions, a nod to the strain’s signature scent. The aroma plus the sweet and savory taste is pretty unique and is an acquired taste to some and absolutely loved by others.

GMO Cookies: Garlic, Mushroom & Onions
GMO Cookies seeds are responsible for a deep green plants that upon closer inspection is covered with white resin that makes the buds exceptionally sticky. When harvested the buds are dark green with flecks of amber throughout. With a massive THC content and solid yields full of the dankest buds you’ve ever seen, this strain has found its way into home grow rooms across the country. It is only rising in popularity and for those that love the taste and smell, it is a cornerstone in their personal setups. The GMO strain won Best Flower Cultivar at the 2023 Greenway Magazine Best of the Industry awards. This is the only award the fairly young strain has won, but with it popping up all over the place it should win more awards in the not so distant future. Somewhat difficult to grow the one major plus is that GMO is an excellent time-saver for home growers as the strain produces almost 100% female plants.
Growing Tips for Our Seeds
GMO Cookies can be grown both indoors and outdoors by intermediate growers. First-timers will have a hard time bringing this strain to fruition. The strain requires a warm, sunny environment that is very humid, with nutrient rich soil and plenty of air circulation. The plants love water so you will want to give them plenty, but pay attention so you don’t overwater them. Carve out a window of quality weather dependingon where you live. These plants tend to be finicky outdoors but if you live in a warm, humid climate you shouldn’t have any issues getting to your harvest.
Dial in Your Growing Conditions
- Indoor or Outdoor: GMO Cookies plants grow well indoors and have the ability to grow well outdoors. The ideal temperature for these plants is a between 65-85 degrees fahrenheit. When it comes to lighting you will want to start with 18-24 hours of light during the vegetative stage and dial it back to 12 hours during the flowering stage.
- Moisture control: The GMO Cookies strain requires ample humidity levels of around 70% for optimal growth. Maintain a humidity level of 70% while in the flowering stage. Humidity is a friend to the GMO strain.
- Training Techniques: Topping and low-stress training can really help with the success of this particular strain. LST and topping encourage a bushier canopy to allow light to reach lower branches and buds.
The Germination Game Plan
Before you even plant your GMO Cookies female cannabis plants, you will first need to germinate these seeds. To do so, refer to our free germination guide, knowing that they are backed by our impressive 90% germination guarantee.
Yields, Flowering Time and Harvest
- Flowering Time: With indoor grows you can expect the GMO Cookies strain to harvest after a flowering stage of 8-9 weeks. Outdoor growers should anticipate harvesting around mid to late-October.
- Yields: While Indoor yields are around 450 grams, outdoor grows typically produce up to 400 grams per plant. While the yields aren’t massive the buds THC content more than makes up for it.
Dominant Terpenes in GMO Cookies: An Acquired Taste
The GMO Cookies terpene profile is directly responsible for how the plant smells, tastes and the strong effects it has on its users. The most dominant terpene in this strain is caryophyllene, while myrcene and limonene are the secondary terpenes.
- Caryophyllene: Most Dominant – Tenacious, spicy, and woody, this terpene is also found in clove, black pepper, and rosemary.
- Myrcene: Secondary Terpene – Features an earthy quality. Present in basil, mangoes, hops and lemongrass.
- Limonene: Entourage Effect – Sweet, yet has a refreshing citrus bite. Depicting essences of lemon, lime, and grapefruit.
Dominant Cannabinoids in GMO Cookies:
Cannabinoids play an important role in GMO Cookies seeds and are generally a huge part of most cannabis strains. That euphoric, happy and relaxed feeling you get when using the GMO Cookies strain is due to its dominant cannabinoids. Each cannabinoid does something different to the user.
- THC: The Main Character – THC is the most dominant cannabinoid on the molecular level of this strain. The crystalline compound tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient of cannabis. Topping out at a monster 27%, the THC in the Indica-dominant strain is responsible for the chill and gleeful feeling you get with GMO Cookies.
- CBD: Very Minimal Amounts – While the CBD levels in GMO are less than 1% the cannabinoid is still present. CBD plays a smaller role in what the strain does to the user. CBD is non-psychoactive and can produce effects that help with anxiety, sleep and even stress. The CBD in the GMO Cookies strain, even in its low amounts definitely has a positive effect on the user.
