Why is it important to know the best way to germinate seeds?
Sadly, you can’t merely buy cannabis seeds, even the highest quality of cannabis seeds, and just set them aside until they grow into luscious marijuana plants. You have to handle the growing process, and a key part of that is germination. What is germination? Germination occurs when your seed sprouts. That is, of course, when a seed cracks open and a sprout emerges. Germinating is basically the beginning of your plant growing. To put it in a simple fashion, if your seed doesn’t germinate, you can’t grow a plant. Without successful germination, you won’t get to enjoy your favorite marijuana strains. Now, don’t give up on growing your own marijuana at home just because you know this. As we said, there are ways that make it easy to germinate your cannabis seeds, including what we think is the best way to germinate seeds. If you handle the germination process correctly, you have nothing to fear when it comes to making sure your seeds sprout.
What is the best way to germinate seeds?
Some people will germinate their cannabis seeds in the soil, while others will do it with the seeds submerged in water to try and soften the seed casing. However, neither of these is the method we will recommend. Neither of them are the best way to germinate seeds. This method requires a few pieces of “equipment,” but nothing that you shouldn’t have around your house already. You just need two clean plates, some distilled water, and a few paper towels. That’s all manageable, right? Take one of those plates and use it as the base. Dampen a couple of paper towels, leaving them wet but not dripping. Place those paper towels on the plate, and then place the cannabis seeds on the paper towels. Leave at least an inch between each seed. Repeat the paper towel dampening and place those paper towels on the seeds. Take your second plate, turn it upside down, and place it over the whole shebang. Basically, you are creating a dark dome for the seeds and the damp paper towels. Then, move the seeds somewhere that is warm. We’re talking between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s all you need to do. Seems simple enough, right?
What do I need to keep an eye out for when it comes to the best way to germinate seeds?
OK, you’ve sandwiched your cannabis seeds between some damp paper towels and a couple of plates. What now? Every day you should check on your seeds, and also the paper towels. If the paper towels have dried out, dampen them again, perhaps with a spray bottle. Your seeds could start sprouting in as soon as three days. What should you be looking for? Your seed has germinated once it has opened and a sprout is visible. This sprout is your taproot, and it is going to grow into your marijuana plant. Your seeds will likely germinate between three and 10 days. If a seed hasn’t germinated within two weeks, it likely won’t. Now, you may not have done anything wrong. Some seeds are just duds, unfortunately. Once a seed has germinated, it’s time to move it into the growing medium. Now, this is one play where not germinating in the soil makes things a little trickier, but you gain a lot of positives in this method that soil germination doesn’t provide. Also, if you don’t use soil as your growing medium, you can’t germinate there anyway. You have to keep your seed and taproot clean, so we recommend moving them with sanitized tweezers. That’s easy enough to do, right?
